Tomorrow is Brandon's birthday and I wanted to do something new for his cake. So I thought something in the crockpot would be moist and delicious. Right? Wrong.
I found the recipe here and couldn't wait to make it! It calls for chocolate and peanut butter.. what could go wrong? I mixed together all of the ingredients and threw it in the crockpot this morning before work. When I came home for lunch, the aroma of chocolate filled the apartment. I couldn't wait to try it!
8 hours later...
This is what it looked like after slow cooking--not too bad, right?
I decided to go ahead and dish it up and add a scoop on ice cream on top. Oh yeah, it was going to be amazing.
My mad photography skills.
I made Brandon and I both a bowl, took a huge spoonful, shoveled it in my mouth and...
It tasted like what I'd imagine watered down, soggy, tasteless dog food tasting like.
Don't make it.
But I do have a question: is there such a thing as a good crockpot dessert recipe? I'd love to try it if there is!
Anyway, Happy Birthday Babe! Sorry your cake sucked!
LOL I will definitely not make it.

Its pretty good. I use 1 cup of sour cream and 1/2 cup milk instead. When it's done, for that added kick, I top with ice cream and chocolate sauce. Yum.
Don't you just hate when something that seems like it should be great just isn't? I made Crockpot oatmeal with cranberries and nuts, etc. a few years ago with the same results. I awoke to the smell of cinnamon and oatmeal and fruit that when tasted was horrible! Thanks for the tip. I had wondered when I have seen recipes like this floating around Pinterest. :) Saw your link on Savvy Southern Style.
ReplyDeleteBummer. I did that with chocolate zucchini bread-not in the crock pot though. I love making rice pudding in the crock pot! Good luck:)
ReplyDeleteI've seen these crockpot cake recipes & wondered if they could possibly turn out good ... Thanks for clearing that up :)
ReplyDeleteI've made baked apples in a crock pot - they are yum! But never a cake :)

Thanks for the warning I have never have any luck with crockpot desserts other than rice pudding and even that was mediocre.
ReplyDeleteyuck. I dry heave over the smell of dog food, cake that tasted like it would send me to the bathroom in a hurry! Good to know I need to steer clear of it!

Thanks for the caution! I've seen loads of this type of recipe around on Pinterest - I won't bother! I'm your newest follower :)
ReplyDeleteIf you will put paper towels over the slow cooker before you put the lid on, the paper towels will absorb the condensation during the cooking process and the cake will not be soggy.
ReplyDeleteI've had lots of luck that way.

There is there is! My mom makes one and we call it "kettle cake" but I think it's also called lava cake. It's AMAZING! You use one box of chocolate cake mix, one box of chocolate pudding, and half a bag of semi sweet (or milk choc) chips. You prepare the cake batter and pour it in the crockpot (sprayed w/cooking spray), on top of the cake batter pour your prepared chocolate pudding (instant) and on top of that the chocolate chips. Cook for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours then serve with ice cream!
ReplyDeleteAww bummer, I'm sorry the cake didn't turn out any good. Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional so we don't try it out too. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Annie,
ReplyDeleteSure am glad you warned me and now of course I want to make the cake right away. Hope you have a great weekend and thank you so much for sharing with Full Plate Thursday.
